"Borchert Field C.A.R.E.S." -Care in Action
By Aureia Mosley
Monday, December 10, 2012 Borchert Field held an Appreciation Pot Luck Event for the 14th Street CARES (Community Advocating for Residential Empowerment and Stability) organization. Its event highlighted the residents' accomplishments and network. This year, 14th Street CARES under the direction of Talibah Mateen of Safe and Sound and the Community Representatives Aureia Mosley and Denise Wooten have moved the area forward.
This year, 14th Street CARES succeeded in having its area considered a Targeted Investment Neighborhood (TIN). This means that those in the area are given access to additional resources to improve their quality of life. In addition, it has made significant strides in cleaning up the Columbus Park areas: courts, pavement, and general condition of the park. It has installed additional measures of safety and communication. Furthermore, it has mentored several block clubs in the area on networking. For all of its consistent effort and hard work, the group received the Safe and Sound Neighborhood Improvement Award.
Alderwoman Coggs, newly elected State Rep Sandy Pasch, County Supervisor David Bowen, Evan Goyke, and many others from surroundind block clubs came to celebrate the club's accomplishments.
Please note: Aureia Mosley was honored as a Difference Maker by Alderwoman Coggs in Jan 2013.
