Block Party

Let's give a warm round of thanks to Jada who single-handedly organized our Block Party this year. She has contemplated this since our meeting in June.

She is new to the hospitality/events committe and really had things planned.
She sponsored food, games, contests, prizes, and music. Her guest DJ Ryde cranked out the tunes.

This was a great follow up to the highlights of this month: wedding.

Thank you again Jada for planning an event for all of us.

Frequent Clean ups

Hello Everyone,

Our pizza treat for the firehouse on 27th and Capitol was delivered early June.

By the end of this week, we should have delivered our thank you card and treats to the MPD district #5.

We would like to thank the City of Milwaukee for its frequent stops to pick up debris and discarded items due to the flood. Please keep in mind, that you will have to spot check and sweep up any glass that has fallen out of the trucks unbeknownst to the drivers.

Also, thanks to our elected officials for making sure that FEMA and city volunteers came through to visit our areas to inspect properties. We trust that some of us will receive aid. In addition, the city has set up a volunteer office. This will help with the elderly and disabled members of the community who need assistance. If you have helped but are running short of time, please call 286-city to set up assistance for the elderly.

We would like for the students in the neighborhood to start school with at least a pencil, pen, folder, and notebook. These supplies are being sponsored by the Westside MBC, Pastor Darrell Marbley and Asst. Pastor Smith, 3427 West St. Paul. Please make sure to send in your count so that your child will be included.

Last neighborhood clean up for the summer to takes place at the end of August.

Remember to check Alderwoman Cogg's website for any upcoming district meetings and to view the milwaukee.gov (city link) for any updates from the Mayor.

Kudos and Updates

First, let's thank everyone for remembering to keep the neighborhood clean. Also, let's thank both Senator Taylor and Richard Badger for informing us of the job fairs and entrepreneur events.

We would also like to thank the City of Milwaukee's Neighborhood Improvement Service and The Department in charge of taking care of street repairs for patching up the potholes in record time this week.

We would like to thank the Milwaukee Police Department for their frequent tours to prevent crime and the fire department/paramedics for their rapid response to our emergency events (births or health issues).

I am aware that many of us had water in our basements and I understand your frustration when cleaning and seeing the never ending water. The City has in place something for those who suffered sewage backup. There is a number or website (milwaukee.gov/backup) for you to visit to request an assessor to visit so that a claim may be filed. Your property is inspected for validity and assessment of damages.

Remember to check with Alderwoman Milele Cogg's website for any updates about the district.

See you at the next clean up.

Moving Forward

Hello Everyone,

We are moving forward. We had a successful meeting in June. We were able to establish some networking with individuals from Ashanti Hamilton's district. We exchanged ideas about monitoring the neighborhood and getting rid of any illegal activity. We also discussed combining some meetings to provide greater solidarity.

We want to thank those of you who ordered the dumpster. We also encourage everyone to call regarding potholes in the streets or alleys. Keep in mind that an entire alley cannot be replaced but potholes in the alley can be filled without additional costs to the property owners.

In addition, please remind all of your visiting friends of the noise ordinance and general neighborhood policies.

Email with any concerns. Neighborhood clean up to occur in two weeks. Career fair July 9th at 7101 W. Good Hope.

Welcome!!

Welcome to our new communication system. This will help you to keep up with events that are planned for the neighborhood and the little things.

You may also issue a complaint or send an email to the groverheights@gmail.com address so that we can work to alleviate problems and keep our area strong.

Look for a notice this week about our area and the committees for which you can sign up. In addition, please post a comment or leave a message about our neighbors. This may include birthday, help requests (via email), or messages about something you would like to change.

I will repost them anonymously if sent via email.

Thanks again,
