Honoring our Senior Luncheon on Saturday, Dec 10, 2016
Honoring
Our Seniors
To
Revive our Community
Luncheon
Saturday,
December 10th, 2016
1-4:30
PM
Grace Fellowship Church
3879 N. Port Washington Avenue
Milwaukee, WI
53212
Background
and Purpose
Our seniors have worked
diligently to preserve our heritage, neighborhood cohesiveness, develop a
sustainable neighborhood, and pass on critical thinking and life skills. The Triangle, Williamsburg, and Grover
Heights since the 1970’s have organized block clubs that formed an incorporated
association in 2014 and have continued to thrive.
The purpose of this
event is to honor those seniors, present and not present, who are willing to
share histories and skills so that current residents can rebuild the glory days
of the area and build a sustainable community that proactively solves problems
and organically develops its area and people holistically.
Our chosen symbol of honor is the Lamp of
Knowledge. It is our elders who possess
the knowledge, learning, and skills that will enable the community to
proactively thrive in the days ahead.
This afternoon, they will pass this on while eating and playing games
with their succeeding generations who will ask questions and share their own
stories.
We ask that during the dinner you switch
seats and make sure that you are sitting at different tables so that you can
learn from someone else. At the end of
the luncheon, you will fill out a survey that details who you met, their
stories, and what you learned that you can apply in life. You will also tell how it will help you to
proactively solve problems in the community.
Our Seniors are asked to describe the event and what they have learned
from the younger generations. Each of
you will also state what you will do to help develop your community and preserve
our rich 5PNA history.
We are looking forward to this day of
feasting, learning, and fun here at our special hosts Grace Fellowship Church. We appreciate their hospitality.
Overview
As we open we would like to acknowledge the 5PNA
members who made this day possible.
Those of you who are members, on committees, attend meetings, and who
worked hard to request the grant that played a major role in sponsoring this
event.
The Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Reason for Hope
Milwaukee Fund helped support this event with a $5000.00 grant. The GMF has helped individuals, families, and
organizations realize their philanthropic goals and make a difference in the
community, during their lifetimes and for future generations. The Foundation consists of more than 1,200
individual charitable Funds, each created by donors to serve the charitable
causes of their choice. Thank you to the
Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
Our
gratitude also extends to Westside Missionary Baptist Church for their support
with this event and many others.
We would also like to extend our appreciation to
Andy and Trophy Athletic for their support of this event.

Win an orchard for your neighborhood-Victory Garden's Initiative Fruitty Nutty Contest
Annual Fruity Nutty 5 Contest by Victory Gardens Begins
For the fifth year in a row, Victory Garden Initiative (VGI) is giving away five community orchards through the Fruity Nutty 5 Contest, open through February 1. Communities in Milwaukee County are encouraged to apply via mail or online to win up to 30 fruit and nut trees to cultivate into beautiful local food sources. Winners will be announced at the VGI Fruity Nutty Affair, held in late February. VGI volunteers will plant the trees on Earth Day, April 22, 2017.
VGI has planted 23 orchards across the county in their mission to create a socially just, environmentally sustainable and nutritious food system for all by building communities that grow their own food. “Neighborhood orchards provide more than delicious, organic local fruits and nuts—they cultivate roots for closer communities, supplement grocery bills and get our neighbors outside, enjoying and preserving our environment,” says Executive Director Gretchen Mead.
For more information and to apply, call 414-431-0888 or visit VictoryGardenInitiative.org/FruityNutty.

Good Morning Mateen here:
Please pass this info on.
Milwaukee's Capuchin Ministries has opened their list for free holiday food boxes TODAY! The boxes include everything a person would need to make Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner for a family of four! Turkey included! And this year, they are serving ALL zip codes in Milwaukee!
If you know of anyone that could benefit from this awesome service, all they need to do is contact the House of Peace site at 414.933.1300. Individuals will need a photo ID, recent piece of mail, and ID for any children being served.
Please let people know as soon as possible, as the list typically fills up very quickly.
Thanks!
