Here are several minutes from the meeting.
We also have announcements. There are other neighborhood specific matter that anyone not
attending the meeting need to touch base on through email. Send one to groverheights@gmail.com right away.
1. Officer L. Osiewalski has been attending the meetings and is working diligently with the group as Lt. Jackson, Officer Carus, and Officer Howard have all changed locations. She left several valuable communication handouts as well as strategies of record keeping. In addition, she gave a recap of neighborhood policies. All who did not receive one are asked to email for a copy.
2. Bree from Safe and Sound will serve as intermediary between the neighborhood, Al, and Safe and Sound to ensure neighborhood needs are met. If you do not have addresses on your garage or smoke detectors in the home please send an email so that we can sign you up on the list immediately.
3. Chris Gandt from Riverworks presented information about the Riverworks organization and what it does. He also gave information about HGNI (Harambee Great Neighborhood Initiative) and several opportunities offered by the city for grants and loans. He expressed a few programs that are available for seniors like the Rebuild Together and Senior Initiative through Interfaith.
4. Clean-ups with dumpsters are scheduled for April 21st and June 16th. Jewell Carter will have additional groups of children to help out. Please remember that these are children who volunteer during the cleans ups and are not prowling.
5. Block Party is being planned for July 21st in combination with Williamsburg Triangle. Jada, Jewell, and Tracey will work to plan the event.
6. Sgt. Whitten will survey the area in order to determine the exact parking issues and bring a choice of alternatives to the group.
7. Several other issues were discussed regarding the current street repairs and need for immediate clean ups.

March 2012
1. Gracelyn Wilson presented information about the various types of grants and loans available. She also presented the idea of a TIN and seeking that as an option for the area.
2. DOT concerns and traffic.
3. Officers Carus and Howard addressed traffic concerns of Messmer with Officer Osiewalski, our new rep.

Meeting 12/14/11
First, let me thank everyone who is hosting a yard sign for their candidates. This is a critical political year and we appreciate your expression as a citizen.
Lt. Jackson, Jewel Carter, and Tracey Dent (representing State Rep Elizabeth Coggs) hosted the meeting. We are invited to attend a meeting at the 5th district police station at 5:30PM on Jan 5th, 2012.
Lt. Jackson and Officers Hunter and Lopez addressed the following:
1) Trees are scheduled for trimming the last two weeks of December.
2) A "No U-Turn" sign has been placed at the redlight on 7th and Capitol. Squad cars will come to monitor traffic flow during peak times.
3) Placing a "NO Parking" sign at the southern park of 7th Street is being investigated.
4) City is working on bus monitoring and have addressed surrounding schools and students about safety concerns.
5) Some individuals responsible for thefts have been apprehended.
6) Break down all boxes before tossing so that large items purchased are not known to potential thieves.
7) Blue box and surrounding wires have been removed.
Jewel Carter has a program through Harambee. Her goal is to work with the youth from 14-24. Job training and activities are primary foci of the program. She will start the program in February and is looking for recruits. The youth will perform many of the following:
1) Neighborhood beautification projects
2) Flyer distribution
3) Educational support
4) Social Support
5) Job training
Tracey Dent who represented State Rep. Elizabeth Coggs at the meeting spoke on the following:
1) Youth group for ages 14-19.
2) State Rep. Coggs' various tasks and survey that she has sent for people to fill out and return.
3) Current issues in Madison and how they affect citizens
Alderwoman Coggs has the following information available:
1) Jan 28th seminar for youth and adult entrepreneurs-MLK library
2) Jan 30th Town Hall Meeting-MLK library
3) Request for youth applicants for the scholarship
4) Rental and Homeowner rehab grants available
Co. Supervisor Willie Johnson
1) Has submitted our information to the DOT for sound barrier.

Minutes 11/14/11
Our meeting was a huge success. County Supervisor Johnson covered the his role, service through various committees and community organizations, and aspects of the budget. He is also looking into other issues for the group.
He is hosting three informational sessions on the budget in the upcoming weeks. Grover Heights is invited. The next is Nov 21st at Clinton Rose Center on King and Burleigh.
Lt. Jackson and Officers (Caceres, Howard, Smith) provided information on burglar proofing the neighborhood and ways to prevent vehicle theft. They also took information about various issues and will provide follow-up.
Also, check into the home rehab services. There is funding available to fix up homes in the area and for those who have renters. One of the programs also looks at providing funds to homeowners who have a vacant home next to them. This money can be used to upgrade the landscaping to draw in a homeowner.

Concealed Carry Meeting-What does it mean?
What: Concealed Carry Public Meeting

Who: Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, Senator Spencer Coggs, State Rep. Elizabeth Coggs, State Rep Leon Young are hosting a public information session meeting regarding the concealed carry legislation.

Also: Milwaukee District Attorney John Chisolm will be on hand to explain what
the concealed carry law entails, where to go for proper training and permits,
